Let your kids dunk their own apples

During the Fall season, I can't help but obsess about Caramel Apples. When the holidays approach, I tend to want my family even more involved in shopping, cooking and of course eating! My kids always found it more enticing to help if it involved getting their hands messy.

We have done a pizza, spaghetti, and a taco bar in the past and my kids always enjoyed picking their toppings. I have long wanted to make caramel apples but I can never choose what topping I want most.

An Apple Dunkin' Bar was definitely the answer! I started thinking of the unlimited possibilities and was in love with the ideas!

S' mores apple: Dunk Apple Slices in Marshmallow Fluff, Graham Cracker Crumbs, Melted chocolate, and Chocolate Chips.

Caramel and Pecan Apple: Dunk Apple Slices in melted Caramel and Pecan pieces.

Chocolate Peanutbutter Cup Apple: Dunk your Apple Slices in melted Peanutbutter and dunk in Chocolate Chips and Peanutbutter Cups.

Let your imagination run wild. You can use any candy pieces you like. Other toppings may be crushed pretzels, cookies, and even popcorn.

Start with:

*Melted Peanutbutter

*Melted Caramel

*Melted Chocolate

*Melted Marshmallow Fluff

Hot Fudge and Caramel sauce work fantastic for this, however, you can use chocolate chips to melt in the microwave in 25-second intervals so it does not burn. Be sure to stir in between until the chocolate is melted through. The same works well with caramel pieces. With Caramel, I recommend adding a teaspoon of milk during the melting process.

We used skewers for our apple slices to help with the dunkin' but have fun...there aren't any rules!

*Quick Tip: If you will not be dunkin' your apples immediately be sure to squeeze some fresh lemon juice on the sliced apple to keep from browning. Let sit about 2-3 minutes and then pat dry with a paper towel. Toppings will stick better if the apple is not wet.

Happy Dunkin'!
