Summer is upon us! Lets teach our children that reading can be FUN! When children do not read over the summer, they actually regress and lose some of what they learned the year before - also called the "Summer Slide".
The easiest way to avoid the Summer Slide is to keep your child engaged in reading through out the summer. Make reading FUN by allowing them to chose their own material to read, have a prize system or make a play out of a book!
To make your life a little easier, I made a list of FREE summer reading programs in Lakeland and Polk county!
The rules of the game are simple. Choose your favorite books from your local library or your favorite section of the Tampa Bay Times to read over the summer. As you read, track your hours by rounding the bases and collect Rays prizes along the way.
When you read enough hours to get on first base, ask your parent or guardian to initial your card and bring it to your local library. The librarian will sign your card and give you a reading reward. Round the bases by reading a total of 24 hours this summer and receive two tickets to a Rays game!
BAM! Books a Million Summer Reading Adventure!
Read any four books from the the Summer Adventure Reading Section either in-stores or online and receive a FREE drawstring backpack.
- Choose any four books from the Summer Reading Adventure section in-store or online
- Write about the books you’ve read in your Summer Reading Adventure journal.
- Show your completed journal to a store associate to receive your FREE Diary of a Wimpy Kid drawstring backpack.
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program!
This summer earn a free book through the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading program. Read any 8 books and log your reading log. Once complete, take your log to a local Barnes and Noble between August 1st - 31st and choose your free book from this list.
Chuck E Cheese Reading Rewards!
Have your child read every day for two weeks and they will earn 10 free play points!!
